Bowie tops Churchill for title State 4A boys soccer

Steve Wandzilak scored twice in the first half to lead Bowie High School over Churchill of Montgomery County, 4-2, last night in the state Class 4A final at Old Mill High.

Bowie (15-0), the tournament's top seed, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes. Wandzilak, a senior striker, scored off an assist from Mark Jonas at the 9:50 mark and added a header from Andy Moore 17 minutes later.

With 8:30 remaining in the half, third-seeded Churchill (13-3) drew within one on Danny Klein's penalty kick. Mark Miles scored an unassisted goal for the losers in the second half. Jonas and Todd Hicks scored for Bowie in the second half.
