Middle Atlantic Conference Southwest Section Men's Outlooks

Dickinson Red Devils

November 17, 1991

Coach: David Frohman, third year

Assistant coaches: Joseph Stasyzyn, Mark Copeland

Last year's record: 19-8 overall, 9-3 and second in the Middle Atlantic Conference-Southwest Division

Top returnees: Seniors -- guard Craig Copeland, centers Steve Smith and Mike McCauley; juniors -- centers Mike Freese and Chris Piontkowski, forward Bram Zeigler, guard Jim Shekar; sophomores -- guards Dan Williams, Kji Kelly, Greg Cygan and Jim Shanahan

Top newcomers: Sophomore -- guard Aaron Gingrich; freshman -- forward Chris Ellis

Coach's comments: "We lost two starters but have capable replacements. With the combination of them stepping in and the improvement of the three other returning starters, we should do well."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: The Red Devils are coming off a solid 19-8 season with three returning starters. A key will be how they can compensate for the loss of Mark Copeland, who was the force for the Red Devils in the middle last season during his senior year. Frohman will look to freshman forward Chris Ellisand sophomore guard Kji Kelly -- who was the first player off the bench last year -- to fill the void. Seniors Craig Copeland and Steve Smith, along with junior Jim Shekar, will provide leadership in their captain roles. Look for another winning season from Dickinson with improvement as the season progresses.
