ATLANTA -- Dominique Wilkins scored 25 points and rookie Stacey Augmon 17 as Atlanta never trailed.

The Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak against the Hornets, who had won five of the previous six meetings with Atlanta.

Rumeal Robinson opened the scoring with a three-point play in the opening minute and the Hawks built leads of 12 points in the first quarter and 16 early in the second.

The Hornets, led by rookie Larry Johnson's 19 points and 14 rebounds in 29 minutes, cut Atlanta's lead to 58-54 on two consecutive 20-footers by Rex Chapman early in the third period.

Charlotte trailed 62-57 with 9:02 left in the third when Wilkins hit three consecutive baskets, starting a run that built a 76-63 lead in the final 90 seconds of the period.
