School cuts

It's your call

November 11, 1991

Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke has announced that he may shut schools for a week to cut $7.5 million from the city's school budget, part of an overall $8.8 million cut in school funding forced by massive reductions in state aid.

State law mandates a 180-day school year, unless a local district applies to the state school board for a waiver, which can be granted under three circumstances: natural disaster, civil disaster and severe weather. Do you think the state board should grant the waiver? Or should the city find other ways to cut the school budget?

Call SUNDIAL, the Baltimore Sun's telephone information system, on a Touch-Tone phone. The call is local, and answers will be registered between 10 a.m. and midnight. The SUNDIAL phone number is 783-1800 or, in Anne Arundel County, 268-7736. When you reach SUNDIAL, enter category 4600 and wait for instructions. Results will be published tomorrow.
