Man Cleaning Gun Shoots Himself

A 19-year-old Edgewater man accidentally shot himself in the shoulder Thursday night, county police said.

Investigators said David Allen Freier, of the 1900 block of Potomac Road, was cleaning his rifle in the bedroom of his home when the gun went off by accident.

Freier called to his roommate for help, and his roommate called the police.

Freier was in stable condition the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.


A 26-year-old Laurel woman was robbed Wednesday as she was walking to her car outside her home.

County police said the woman was walking in the 1900 block of Charolette Drive at about 1 a.m., when a man came up from behind and pushed her down.

He snatched her purse and ran. Police described the robber as a black man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 200 pounds and wearing light blue pants and a dark blue coat.
