CUTTING/ARREST: Northern District -- Police arrested a 14-year-old resident of the 200 block of E. 25th St. yesterday and charged him as a juvenile with assault after he cut another teen-ager with a knife during an altercation near their homes. Police said the injured youth, Levar Bailey, 14, also of the 200 block of E. 25th St., was cut on the left side of the neck with a 5-inch blade knife during the fight. Police said the knife severed an artery and that Bailey was bleeding heavily until an unidentified doctor from the nearby Charles Village Medical Center arrived and stemmed the bleeding. Police said Bailey was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition. The other youth was arrested and later charged and remanded to the Waxter Juvenile Center in Laurel pending action by juvenile authorities. Police said that during the fight, the suspect's mother ran up and fired a handgun in the air to get the youths to stop fighting. Police said the woman was handcuffed, but it was not immediately known if she was arrested for discharging a firearm.

THEFT: Northern District -- David Emory, of the 700 block of W. 33rd St., reported that someone broke into his car while it was parked near his home and stole hand and power tools, all valued at nearly $900. Police said entry was gained by breaking a passenger window.

BURGLARY/THEFTBURGLARY/THEFT: Northern District -- David James, of the 1100 block of E. Belvedere Ave., reported that someone broke into his home between Tuesday and yesterday and stole a set of keys. James said the intruder then left the house and drove off in his 1991 Pontiac. In the car, police said, was a black bomber-style jacket, cash, a gold ring and a watch. Police said the property, including the car, was valued at nearly $16,200.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a 1989 Ford Escort while it was parked in the 3400 block of Guilford Terrace and stole several books, a dusting machine, sunglasses, prescription eyeglasses and a tool box containing several hand tools.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 800 block of Gorsuch Ave. reported that someone broke into her home through a side window and stole a 35mm camera. Police said the camera was valued at more than $300.

THEFT: Northern District -- Elizabeth Matthai, of the 200 block of Tunbridge Road, reported someone removed 15 feet of copper downspouting from her home Wednesday between noon and 3 p.m. Police said the spouting was valued at more than $100.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Police reported that property valued at nearly $200 was stolen from a dwelling in the 800 block of Gorsuch Ave. after someone broke in through a window. Police said the intruder escaped with two stereo speakers and a telephone answering machine.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Linda Horton, of the 3900 block of Greenmount Ave., reported she was walking in the 3200 block of Greenmount Ave. about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when a man ran up to her and stole the purse she was carrying. Police said the purse contained cash and property, all valued at more than $200.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Jennifer Norris, of the 1400 block of Homestead St., reported she was walking in the 700 block of Homestead St. about 11 a.m. Wednesday when a man approached her from behind and stole the purse she was carrying. Police said the purse contained cash and property, all valued at more than $300.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 200 block of E. 25th St. reported that someone forcibly entered her home through a second-floor window and stole several coins, two VCRs and a camera. Police said the property was valued at more than $400.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Lorenzo Malone, of the 2600 block of Garrison Blvd., reported he was walking in the 3100 block of W. North Ave. Wednesday night when he was stopped by an armed man who robbed him of a money order he had just purchased. Malone told police the money order was made out for nearly $150.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police reported two women walking in the 1300 block of Poplar Grove St. yesterday evening were robbed of their coats and jewelry by a man armed with a handgun. Police said the man robbed Veronica Bass, of the 3000 block of Grayson St., of her coat and jewelry, all valued at more than $700. He took a jacket and jewelry from Mary Curlington, of the 3000 block of Normount Court. Police said the property taken from Curlington was valued at more than $900.

CHURCH BURGLARY: Southern District -- Members of the Southwest Baptist Church in the first block of S. Calhoun St. reported that someone broke into the building between Wednesday night and yesterday morning and stole several pieces of property. The value of the property is not known.
