Winfrey's company to make children's shows

November 07, 1991

NEW YORK -- Oprah Winfrey's Chicago-based production company will produce all four of next season's "ABC Afterschool Specials," ABC said.

Programs for the acclaimed series have come from various outside producers in the past. During the 1992-93 season, they will be made by Harpo Productions Inc., which produces Winfrey's talk show.

The four shows are a drama, a documentary, and two "reality-based" shows. Winfrey will serve as host of the documentary and as moderator of the latter two. ABC didn't say how Harpo Productions would be paid.
