Friends upsets top-seeded Severn, 2-1 AIS field hockey

Amy Kromen's second-half goal on an assist from Heather Bohanan lifted eighth-seeded Friends to an upset victory over top-seeded and host Severn, 2-1, yesterday in the A Division of the AIS field hockey tournament quarterfinals.

Bohanan had tied the game on a feed from Carey Malloney earlier in the half.

Severn (13-2-2) led, 1-0, at halftime on a goal by Ann Shorreck with an assist from Cristina Brill.

In other A Division games:

Julie Martin and Sarah Morse scored shootout goals, as Garrison Forest (8-1-3) advanced over visiting McDonogh (7-4-3).

Kathleen Harrington stopped 10 shots for Garrison Forest, and Robin Wallace had seven saves for McDonogh.

The game remained scoreless through two overtime periods.

Brent McAllister and Catherine Passano scored in the first half to lead visiting Roland Park (6-3-3) over St. Paul's (7-1-5), 2-1.

Bryn Mawr's Kimberly McCleary scored two goals to lift the host Mawrtians over Notre Dame Prep, 2-0.

In B Division action, Melissa Reese and Kim Kirkbride scored one goal apiece, as Seton Keough edged Glenelg Country School, 2-1.

Kirsten Blalock scored Glenelg's only goal.

Melissa Bartow and Molly Brumfield scored first half goals to lead John Carroll (4-2-1) over visiting St. Timothy's, 2-1.

Carey Vizzi scored a first-half goal for St. Timothy's, and Jean Coccagna had 15 saves for John Carroll.
