Honoring A Young Leader

ELDERSBURG — Kimberly Hoffmaster, a senior at Liberty High, will attend the National Young Leaders Conference from Nov. 19 to 24 in Washington.

Kimberly, who was chosen for her academic achievement, leadership and citizenship, will be among 350 high school students nationwide at the Congressional Youth Leadership Council conference.

The daughter of Bill and Marge Hoffmaster, Kimberly has been a member of Students Against Drunk Driving, the National Honor Society, student government and writing assistants. She served as freshman class vice president.

Other honorees include Donna McKenzie, a fourth-grade teacher at Mount Airy Elementary.

McKenzie had received a "Certificate of Excellence" at the Maryland State Social Studies Conference for the project "Destination Antarctica," which integrated many areas of the curriculum.

The program was submitted to last year's State Social Studies Conference. It will be presented at the NationalSocial Studies Conference in Washington on Nov. 23.
