Boy, 12, Is Attacked While Trick-or-treating

A group of juveniles attacked a 12-year-old Columbia boy and made off with his trick-or-treat candy Thursday, police said.

The 12-year-old was trick-or-treating in the Hickory Ridge area of Columbia whena group of youths approached him. One of the unidentified youths hitthe boy in the face and grabbed his pillow case full of candy.

An unidentified witness chased the youths. They got away, but dropped the bag of candy.

Police are continuing the investigation.


Police said a 26-year-old man shota Catonsville resident in the leg during an argument early Thursday morning in a Columbia apartment complex.

Police charged Phillip Edward Wise, whose address is unknown, with assault with intent to murder and a series of other charges.

George Nathaniel Lumpkins, 29, of the 3600 block of Winters Lane, was visiting his girlfriend at one of the apartments when he got into an argument with Wise, police said. The argument carried into a stairwell. Wise allegedly pulled a handgun and shot Lumpkins in the leg at about 1 a.m.

Wise fled, policesaid, but turned himself in at police headquarters Thursday afternoon. He is being held on $100,000 bond at the Howard County Detention Center

Lumpkins was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is in stable condition.

Wise also has been charged with a handgun violation, assault and reckless endangerment.

11600 block of Johns Hopkins Road: Oct. 29, electronic equipment and a shotgun were reported stolen sometime before 4 p.m. from a home entered when someone forced open a basement door.


9000 block of Stebbing Way: Oct. 28, a 1988 Hyundi Excel was reported stolen sometime before 9 a.m. from a residential neighborhood.

2900 block of Greenway Drive: Oct. 25, a gas can was reported stolen from a shed sometime before 11a.m.


Unit block of Frances Street: Oct. 24, a stereo was reported stolen between 10-10:15 p.m. from a home entered through an unlocked rear door.

9700 block of Evening Primrose: Oct. 25, a 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum was reported stolen sometime before 8 p.m. from a residential neighborhood.

Unit block of Midway Trailer Park: Oct. 25, a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am was reported stolen between 12:30 and7:45 a.m. from a trailer park.
