New York Mets -- Announced the resignation of Dr. James Parkes, team physician. Named Dr. David Altchek team physician.

New York Yankees -- Sent P Mike Witt, P Kevin Mmahat and 3B Torey Lovullo outright to Class AAA Columbus. Purchased the contracts of P Ed Martel, P Russ Springer, 1B J.T. Snow and SS David Silvestri from Class AA Albany-Colonie. Purchased the contract of P Roberto Munoz from Class A Fort Lauderdale.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Announced they would not offer salary arbitration to SS Dickie Thon.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Allowed P Bob Walk (9-2, 3.60) to become an unrestricted free agent yesterday, but indicated they probably will try to re-sign him.

San Diego Padres -- Hired Kasey McKeon, son of former manager and GM Jack McKeon, as an area scout.

Seattle Mariners -- Announced they would not offer salary arbitration to OF Ken Griffey Sr.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Offered salary arbitration to OF Candy Maldonado. P Tom Candiotti filed for free agency. Announced that John Labatt Ltd. had purchased an additional 45 percent interest and now controls 90 percent of the club.

Basketball

Denver Nuggets -- Signed first-round pick G Mark Macon (No. 8 overall from Temple) to a reported 5-year, $7.5 million contract. .. Reached an agreement in principle with G Walter Davis.

Golden State Warriors -- Traded G Mitch Richmond (23.9 ppg in 1990-91), C Les Jepsen (1.3 ppg) and a 1995 second-round draft choice to the Sacramento Kings for rookie G-F Billy Owens (third player taken in draft).

Miami Heat -- Announced that C George Ackles, second-round draft pick, left the team and will play basketball in Spain.

Washington Bullets -- Suspended F John Williams indefinitely for being overweight and out of shape.

Cleveland Browns -- Placed TE John Talley on IR. Re-signed RB Derrick Douglas.

Dallas Cowboys -- Activated LB Reggie Cooper from the practice squad.

Houston Oilers -- Activated WR Leonard Harris off the IR. Waived free-agent WR Frank Miotke.

Pittsburgh Penguins -- Announced that D Paul Stanton (torn right knee ligament) is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

Washington Capitals -- Assigned D Ken Sabourin to Baltimore (AHL).
