Baltimore police have made arrests in two handgun slayings that occurred in the city last month.
Sean E. Ross, 21, of 1900 block of Eutaw Place, was arrested yesterday at the East Side District Court when he appeared there to answer unrelated charges.
Ross was named in a warrant charging him with the Oct. 14 shooting death of Anthony Lawrence Smith, 27, of the same block of Eutaw Place.
Police said Smith was standing on the sidewalk in front of his apartment at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 14 when he was seen arguing with two men. One of the men pulled a revolver and shot him in the buttock.
Smith died at Johns Hopkins Hospital at 10:30 p.m.
Police have disclosed no motive in the killing, and the weapon has not been recovered. The second suspect was still being sought.
In the second case, police went to the 4500 block of Marble Hall Road, in Northwood, about 12:40 a.m. today, where they arrested Brian Covell, 25. Covell was charged with first-degree murder and a handgun violation in the Oct. 29 death of Mark S. Wright, 27, of the 4700 block of Marble Hall Road.
Police said Wright was found Tuesday at 9:15 p.m. lying on the doorstep of a home on his block. He had been shot once in the back.
Wright died at Johns Hopkins Hospital about a half-hour later. Police said he was identified through fingerprints, since he carried no identification.
Both suspects were being held for bail review hearings.
