Integrated Health Services Inc.

Integrated Health Services Inc., a Hunt Valley-based nursing home operator, reported a 37.5 percent gain in third-quarter earnings per share and a 41 percent increase in revenues.

The company used tax-loss carry-forwards in the quarter. Had operational results been fully taxable, third-quarter earnings from continuing operations would have been $1,623,000, or 21 cents a share, vs. $488,000, or 13 cents a share, in the same period last year, a per-share increase of 62 percent.

Delmarva Power & Light

Sales of electricity continued to rise for this Eastern Shore utility company, but construction of a new power plant drained profits for the summer period.

The utility, which is based in Wilmington, Del., said that its earnings per share fell more than its net profits in the third fiscal quarter because it issued more stock to fund the construction of a natural-gas-fired power plant in Edgemoor, Del.

Delmarva said that it has applied for 7 percent rate increases in Maryland and Delaware to cover its higher costs.
