WASHINGTON — Towson State hands Georgetown first shutout, 3-0
WASHINGTON -- Towson State (12-4-2) combined a strong offense with some solid goalkeeping, and handed high-scoring Georgetown University (8-8-1) its first shutout loss of the season yesterday, 3-0.
Ed McCue continued his scoring binge for the Tigers, and teammates Joe Layfield (Calvert Hall) and Ryan Burke (Oakland Mills) added goals. Keeper Rich Pellegrini (John Carroll) survived a 25-shot barrage, finishing with five saves. The Hoyas had gone into the game with 50 goals in their 16 games.
The goal by McCue, last week's East Coast Conference Player of the Week, was his 10th of the season, seven of them in his past five games. Layfield's goal was his 13th.

UMBC 2, Lehigh 0
Shawn Miller scored twice, giving him 13 goals for the year, and Terry Locklear had two assists for the University of Maryland Baltimore County (14-3-1) against Lehigh (9-6-2).
The decision gave UMBC 12 wins in its past 13 games, and Miller's first goal enabled the Retrievers to set a single-season school record of 58.
UMBC has two regular-season games remaining, at James Madison on Saturday and home against Buffalo on Sunday.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Second-ranked University of Virginia (13-1-1) scored three goals in the final six minutes of the first half against Mount St. Mary's (3-12-2). It was the final game of the season for the Mount.
Freshman Mark Hepperlin started in goal for the visitors and had six saves before being injured in a collision at the 35-minute mark. Sophomore Sean Holleran replaced Hepperlin and took the brunt of the Virginia assault.

George Mason 1, Navy 0
FAIRFAX, Va. -- Joe Addo got the goal and George Mason (13-4) ended a four-game Navy (11-5) winning streak. Navy appeared to have tied the game with 10 minutes left, but an apparent goal was waved off by the referee, who called a hand ball.
The Midshipmen will be home Saturday against Patriot League foe Bucknell, and a Navy win would make the Mids the host school for the league tournament, Nov. 9-10.

COLLEGE PARK -- Shawn Long's second goal of the year, in the 74th minute, pulled Maryland (5-7-4) level with James Madison (14-2-1). Both teams were scoreless in overtime. Maryland will end its regular season Saturday at Old Dominion.
