He's heavy,but...

October 29, 1991

Unbeaten heavyweight Riddick Bowe picked up the nickname "Big Daddy" some time back and yesterday at a weigh-in for a boxing show at the Washington Convention Center tonight (7:30), onlookers saw the reason why. Bowe checked in at 277 pounds for his 12-rounder against Elijah Tillery (23-4).

There was a bit of chicanery going on however, because Bowe weighed in with his clothes on and according to some sources, wearing a weighted vest. Even so,said one guy in the know,Bowe probably will come in around 240.

The co-features on the card are Andrew Maynard (17-1) taking on former light-heavyweight champ Matthew Saad Muhammad (39-14) and Sharmba Mitchell (24-0) testing Keeley Thompson (17-7).

Tickets are priced at $100 ringside and $20 general admission.
