Thompson to call 81 games

October 29, 1991

The Baltimore Orioles radio broadcasting team officially is set for next season, as WBAL announced yesterday that Chuck Thompson has agreed to a one-year contract to return for an 81-game schedule.

Thompson will take Jon Miller's place when Miller is on television assignments, with either Channel 2 or ESPN. Joe Angel, returning to WBAL after a year with the New York Yankees, is scheduled to call all 162 games.

In 1992, Thompson will work three innings per game with Angel, rather than the six he did with Ken Levine, who resigned after this season.

"Each year, we feel fortunate that we get another year" of Thompson's announcing, said Jeff Beauchamp, WBAL vice president and general manager.

"I still like to work," said Thompson, who has done so on the air since the 1940s.
