Ryan Wins Defense Prize

R. Paul Ryan of Bel Air recently received the Defense Logistics Agency Meritorious Civilian Service Award.

Ryan is the deputy administrator of the Defense Technical Information Center, in Alexandria, Va.The center collects, stores and distributes scientific and technicalinformation for the Department of Defense's research and developmentprograms.

Ryan was cited for his performance, leadership, expertise and experience. From July 1989 to April 1991, he led the Defense Technical Information Center during a tumultuous period of change.

Honored with award

ROSS NOW LIEUTENANT

Sgt. Norman E. Ross, of the Bel Air police, was promoted to lieutenant.

Ross, 38, of Churchville, is a 14-year veteran with the police department.

He competed with two other sergeants forthe position. The process included a written examination and an oralinterview.

BUTTITTA TOP TEACHER

Jean Buttitta, music and instrumental teacher and choral director at St. Joan of Arc School in Aberdeen, was chosen Outstanding Teacher for 1991-92.

A third-year teacher at the school, she was selected by her fellow teachers.

Buttittaearned a bachelor of arts degree in music education from East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.

Before coming to Harford County, she taught instrumental and vocal music in public schools in Bloomfield, N.J. She also was a high school band director.

She and her husband, Frank, reside in Street.

TWIGG IS HEAD NURSE

Cheri Twigg, a registered nurse, has been appointed head nurse of the special care unit at Fallston General Hospital.

She now manages the nursing care of the coronary and intensive care patients.

Twigg has nine years of experience in coronary and intensive care nursing in community andteaching hospitals. Before coming to Fallston General, she was a staff nurse in the coronary care unit at Franklin Square Hospital and the Cardiac Surgery Unit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Twigg earnedan associate's degree in nursing from Shepherd College in West Virginia and a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Hood College. She isworking toward a master's degree in business administration.

Twigg is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses andthe American Heart Association.
