Closing Policy Is Set

WESTMINSTER — The Carroll County Board of Education has announced its policy for the emergency closing of schools.

In the event that it becomes necessary to close schools for the entire day because of inclement weather, the announcement will be made no later than 6:45 a.m. through the following radio stations: WTTR, Westminster; WHVR, Hanover, Pa.; WFMDand WZYQ, Frederick; WTHU, Thurmont, Frederick County; WBAL, WCAO, WPOC, WCBM, WMAR-TV, WFBR-AM, WLIF, WMIX, B104, WNUV-54, WJZ-TV, WYST,WQSR, WRBS and WGRX, Baltimore; WMAL, WTOP and WJLA-TV, Washington; and WCRH, Williamsport, Washington County.

If weather conditions are such that the opening of schools might be delayed one hour or more, the notification will be made by the same time and through the same stations as for the closing of schools. Late school opening will affect the kindergarten, Vo-Tech, Prep and Headstart programs in the following ways:

* School opening delayed one hour:

* a.m. kindergarten, Vo-Tech, PREP, EIK, EEEP and Headstart programs shortened by one hour.

* p.m. kindergarten and Vo-Techprograms on a regular schedule.

* B & L program shortened by one hour.

* School opening delayed more than one hour:

* a.m. kindergarten, Vo-Tech, PREP, EIK, EEEP and Headstart programs canceled.

* p.m. kindergarten and Vo-Tech programs on a regular schedule.

*B & L students will remain in home schools until Vo-Tech buses take the p.m. Vo-Tech students to Westminster (approximately 10:45 a.m.).

When inclement weather develops throughout the county while pupilsare in school, it may be advisable to close all schools early. The Board of Education will announce on the same radio and TV stations as above that schools will dismiss one, two or three hours earlier than the regular dismissal time. Early school closing will affect the kindergarten and Vo-Tech programs in the following ways:

* School closing to be one hour earlier than usual (decision by 12:15 p.m.):

* a.m. Vo-Tech, kindergarten and PREP programs on a regular schedule.

* p.m. Vo-Tech and kindergarten programs shortened by one hour.

* EEEP and Headstart programs at Elmer Wolfe Elementary on a regular schedule.

* EEEP and Headstart programs at Piney Ridge Elementary,Taneytown Elementary and William Winchester Elementary shortened by one-half hour.

* B &L students will be transported to the Educational Center at 1:15 p.m. (leaving FSK). Students will transfer to buses serving their neighborhoods.

* School closing to be two hours earlier than usual (decision by 11:15 a.m.):

* a.m. Vo-Tech program on a regular schedule.

* p.m. Vo-Tech program canceled. Students will remain in home schools or be returned from the Vo-Tech with the a.m. students.

* a.m. kindergarten program pupils remain for dismissal at the home elementary schools.

* p.m. kindergarten program canceled.

* PREP pupils transported home one hour earlier.

* EEEPand Headstart programs at Elmer Wolfe Elementary shortened by one hour.

* EEEP and Headstart programs at Piney Ridge Elementary, Taneytown Elementary and William Winchester shortened by one and one-half hours.

* B & L students will be transported to the Educational Center at 12:15 p.m. (leaving FSK). Students will transfer to buses serving their neighborhoods. Note: This will be the procedure followed onthe scheduled dismissals of April 10 and June 17.

* School closing to be three hours earlier than usual (decision by 10:15 a.m.):

*a.m. Vo-Tech program on a regular schedule.

* p.m. Vo-Tech program canceled.

* a.m. kindergarten program pupils remain for dismissal at the home elementary schools.

* p.m. kindergarten program canceled.

* PREP pupils transported home two hours earlier.

* EEEP and Headstart programs at Elmer Wolfe Elementary shortened by one andone-half hours.

* EEEP and Headstart programs at Piney Ridge Elementary, Taneytown Elementary and William Winchester Elementary shortened by two and one-half hours.

* B & L students will be transported to the Education Center at 11:15 a.m. (leaving FSK). Students will transfer to buses serving their neighborhoods.

Pupils and parents are urged not to call radio stations or the Board of Education Officeto inquire about school closings and bus service, since calling hampers the handling of announcements.

When schools are closed or there is an early dismissal because of inclement weather, the Adult Evening Program classes will be canceled.
