Man shot to death outside his home in armed robbery

A 32-year-old Baltimore man was shot and killed outside his house last night during an armed robbery, police said.

Melvin Keith Patterson, of the 400 block of East Lafayette Ave., died shortly after he was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital suffering a gunshot wound to the chest, according to police.

Mr. Patterson left his house about 7:30 p.m. to go to a neighborhood liquor store. When he returned a few minutes later, he was confronted by two or three people who apparently robbed him.

Police had no suspect in the killing.

They ask anyone with information about the crime to call the homicide unit at 396-2100.
