Van Matre to rest arm, play tailback

October 24, 1991|By Jerry Bembry

Jason Van Matre, who has started five of six games at quarterback for Navy, will see action at tailback Saturday after injuring his throwing arm in last week's 21-14 loss at Temple.

Van Matre injured his right shoulder while being tackled during Navy's first series. He went on to play most of the game, but had difficulty lifting his arm afterward.

"He's too valuable to have sit on the bench," Navy coach George Chaump said.

Starting in Van Matre's place will be plebe Jim Kubiak.
