THE WEATHER COULDN'T have been better for the prestigious International Turf Festival held last weekend at Laurel Race Course. After Saturday's day of racing, the board of directors of Laurel joined up with the director of the National Museum of American History in D.C. to host an elegant cocktail bash for the international horsy set and invited guests.
Celebs on hand included actress Mary Frann of the "Bob Newhart Show," who said she'd had a good day at the track; actor Robert Loggia, best known for his role in "Big" with Tom Hanks; former Dodger Steve Garvey; Washington Redskins' owner Jack Kent Cooke; and Lupita Jones, the current Miss Universe.
THE LOCAL CONTINGENT? Jean and Charlie Thomas, who'd won the daily double that day; Nancy and Lou Grasmick; John Paterakis; Frank and Martha Hopkins; King and Linda Leatherbury; Dawn and Blase Cooke; Pat and Willy Runyon; Debbie and John Toll; Mary Jo and Joe Pons; and Gloria Cinequani, who's one of the sweetest and hard-working women around.
