Weekend brings GBMC's Nearly New sale

CURRENT volunteers' needs and news:

Greater Baltimore Medical Center's volunteer auxiliary is holding its Nearly New Thrift Sale, one of the largest on the East Coast.

Household goods, toys, antiques, vintage clothes and other clothing for the family, books, records, office equipment and more will be sold in a one-week sale taking place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. The sale will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, then re-opens for half-price day from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. And on the last day, Saturday, Nov. 2, everything you can get in a brown paper bag is $2 (hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.). The sale is held on the GBMC grounds in the Farmhouse on the Hill building. Admission and parking is free. Proceeds will benefit the hospital's Department of Oncology. Details: 828-9467.

United Way of Central Maryland's Management Resources Center is accepting nominations for its fourth annual Awards of Distinction, which cite outstanding managers of non-profit organizations. Dec. 10 is the deadline. For applications and further information call Lois Frame, 547-8000, Ext. 277.

Keswick Adult Day Care Center wants volunteers as bus escorts from 8 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Also, volunteers are needed to assist with activities from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and as lunch assistants from noon to 1 p.m. or to host Bingo. Call Ruth E. Maryland Food Committee wants volunteers who live near a Giant Food Store in Baltimore City or in Harford, Anne Arundel, Howard, Carroll or Baltimore counties who will pass out flyers during the Bags of Plenty Campaign from Nov. 22 to Dec. 2. Call Rose Kalka at 366-0600.
