Cincinnati Reds -- Assigned P Keith Brown and former Orioles OF Stan Jefferson to Class AAA Nashville.

Oakland Athletics -- Announced P Todd Burns is a free agent after refusing assignment to Class AAA Tacoma. Released IF Vance Law. Sent C Troy Afenir and former Orioles OF Brad Komminsk to Tacoma. Reinstated IF Carney Lansford and IF Walt Weiss from the DL.

San Diego Padres -- Exercised their 1992 contract options for SS Tony Fernandez (.272, 4 HRs, 38 RBI, 20 errors) and P Ed Whitson (4-6, 5.03 ERA).


Atlanta Falcons -- Activated CB Elbert Shelley off IR. Placed TE Gary Wilkins on IR.

New Orleans Saints -- Placed FB Bobby Morse on IR. Activated RB Fred McAfee from the practice roster.

Hartford Whalers -- Sent LW Paul Fenton (89 goals, 79 assists in 7 seasons; no scoring this year) to the San Jose Sharks for LW Mike McHugh (1 goal, 8 assists this season).

San Jose Sharks -- Recalled LW John Carter from Kansas City (IHL).
