3 Bands Honored In Showcase

Musicians Perform At Carroll Challenge

UNIONTOWN — Three county bands reached season-high ratings Saturday at the 13th annual Showcase of Bands at Francis Scott Key High.

South Carroll finished first in Group III competition.

With a score of 85.35, the Cavaliers received the traveling trophy for the band with the best overall score.

The band also capturedthe group's specialty awards for best percussion, best marching and maneuvering and best music.

North Carroll placed third in Group III with a 78.75. Walkersville of Frederick County placed second and captured best drum major and band front in Group III.

Westminster took first in Group IV competition with a score of 85.15, beating Williamsport of Washington County by nearly three points.

The Owls alsoreceived awards for best drum major, best band front, best marching and maneuvering and best music. Williamsport won best percussion.

The FSK Eagles opened the evening program with an unscored exhibition.

Liberty, North Carroll and Westminster will participate in the Freestate Spectacular VI on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.

In Bunker Hill, W.Va., Liberty won first place in Group III competition at the Big Apple Tournament of Bands on Saturday.

Ten bandscompeted at Musselman High.

The Lions scored 86.25, beating out three other bands.

The Lions also took best music, best marching, best percussion, and best band front for the group, which includes bands with 56 to 80 members.
