First Md. profits up 27% in 3rd quarter LHC

First Maryland Bancorp, parent company of the First National Bank of Maryland, posted a 27 percent increase in profit for the third quarter, compared with the same period a year earlier.

The company reported a net income of $20.8 million during the three-month period ending Sept. 30, compared with $16.3 million in the same period a year ago. Earnings for the first nine months of the year were $51.2 million were up 22 percent from the $42 million posted during the year-ago period.
