WESTMINSTER — Dr. Eric L. Diamond, a podiatrist, has joined the medical staff of Carroll County General Hospital.
Diamond is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a member of the Executive Board of the Maryland Podiatric Medical Association.
He received his medical degree from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia and completed his internship at theLutheran Hospital of Maryland (now Liberty Medical Center). He went on to complete a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital and has been practicing since 1987.
A clinical associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Diamond is trained in laser surgery, which treats skin and nail problems.

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL ON TAP
WESTMINSTER -- Merchants are planning a Halloween promotionOct. 26, called "Trick or Treat for Children, Spooktacular Savings for Adults."
The Westminster Downtown Retail Merchants Association Inc. has organized the event, said Kathleen Campanella, promotions coordinator.
Participating merchants will give out treats for children and offer 10 percent savings on certain merchandise, she said.
At a meeting Tuesday, merchants learned about preventing crime duringthe busy holiday season.
Roger Joneckis of the city Police Department spoke about securing shops against break-ins, preventing shoplifting and identifying counterfeit money, Campanella said.
Joneckis also talked about getting proper identification when accepting personal checks, recovering money from bad checks and credit card fraud, Campanella said.
On Nov. 12, the association will meet for dinner atthe Westminster Fire Hall.
Merritt Mattson of Consumer Preferred,a Green Bay, Wis., company, will speak on effective directory advertising. Mattson has written "How to Buy Media" and "How to be More Effective in the Marketplace."

UNDERWRITERS TO MEET
WESTMINSTER -- The Carroll County Association of Life Underwriters will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday for a seminar on "Insurance Planning Concepts for Corporations and Small Businesses."
The seminar, at the Westminster Riding Club,is approved for two hours of continuing education credit. The cost for members is $20.
Garry F. Sittig and Clark Gaughan will be the speakers.
Persons attending must have their Maryland license numberand Social Security number.
