With Syracuse on the guest list, the Loyola Fall Lacrosse Championship features a possible rematch of the 1990 NCAA championship game, in which the Orangemen beat Loyola, 21-9.
Division III power Nazareth College and Navy also will participate in the single-elimination tournament. Nazareth will meet Loyola at 1 p.m. today, and Syracuse will play Navy at 3:30 p.m.
Tomorrow, the two losing teams will meet in a consolation game at noon and the winners will play for the championship at 3 p.m.
All games will be at Loyola's Curley Field.
The tournament will be the start of the fall season for the Greyhounds, who have won championships in fall tournaments each of the past two years, winning the CHOICE/Visa Lacrosse Classic both times.
Loyola coach Dave Cottle said the fall season serves primarily to let him know where his team stands.
"I think the biggest thing we're looking for is a chance to put our players up against another team where there's a little pressure, just to see how they'll react to it," he said. "I think this is the culmination of our fall practice."
