Baltimore team beats D.C. outfit

October 12, 1991|By John W. Stewart

A Baltimore team, dominated by single-digit players, handed a Washington team its worst defeat in the last 30 years of this long-running women's event, scoring a 15 1/2 -2 1/2 victory at Maryland Golf and CC in the Baltimore-Washington Women's team match.

Four of the six matches were 3-0 wins, as Baltimore won the inaugural Kathleen Nes Memorial Trophy, placed in competition this year in memory of the former team captain who was killed in an automobile accident a year ago.

The Midge Thursby-Sally Casey team built a commanding lead on the front nine, then could not hold off Linda Collins and Jennifer Lewis on the back nine in getting a 2-1 decision, and Jane DuBois-Cynthia Peters split with Cindy Carlin-Carmen Oelsner, 1 1/2 -1 1/2 , in the only non-sweeps.
