Boston Red Sox -- Fired manager Joe Morgan. Named as manager Butch Hobson, manager of Boston's Class AAA Pawtucket team.

Detroit Tigers -- Named Larry Herndon coach for the 1992 season.

Florida Marlins -- Named Whitey Lockman senior adviser for player personnel.

Houston Astros -- Signed manager Art Howe and coaches Matt Galante, Phil Garner, Bob Cluck, Ed Ott and Rudy Jaramillo to 1-year contracts.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Reassigned GM Harry Dalton to senior vice president for baseball operations. Named Sal Bando general manager, Bruce Manno assistant vice president of baseball operations and Al Goldis vice president of scouting and planning.

Montreal Expos -- Named Eddie Haas executive adviser for baseball operations, Kent Qualls director of minor-league operations, Gregg Leonard administrative assistant for scouting and Felipe Alou coach.

New York Mets -- Claimed IF Junior Noboa off waivers from the Montreal Expos.

Seattle Mariners -- Extended the contract of Bill Kearns, major-league and special-assignment scout, for two years.

Rochester Red Wings (AAA) -- Announced the resignation of GM Dan Lunetta, effective Dec. 1, so he can become director of minor-league administration for the Florida Marlins.

Denver Nuggets -- Agreed to terms with C Dikembe Mutombo.

Los Angeles Lakers -- Waived F Roy Fisher and G Jason Matthews.

Albany Patroons (CBA) -- Named Timothy Henry head trainer.

Tri-City Chinook (CBA) -- Signed G Michael Holton, C Wayne Tinkle and F Alan Pollard.

USA Basketball -- Bill Wall announced that he will retire as executive director and accept a four-year position as coordinator of special projects.

Colleges

Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League -- Announced Army and Navy will leave the league after the 1992 season to join the Patriot League.

Jackson State -- Fired Martin Epps, track and field coach.

Navy -- Announced that freshman OLB Eric Intihar has suffered a fractured tibia in his left leg and will be out the remainder of the season. The injury occurred Friday during the Navy junior-varsity game at the University of Pennsylvania.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Announced that LB Kevin Walker (Maryland) will be lost for the season because of a knee injury suffered Sunday.

Denver Broncos -- Acquired OL Harvey Salem from the Detroit Lions for a 1992 third-round draft choice.

Indianapolis Colts -- Signed RB Tim Manoa. Waived T Jack Linn. Activated T William Schultz from the practice squad.

Los Angeles Raiders -- Released DL Mike Wise.

Washington Redskins -- Signed DE Jason Buck.
