WESTMINSTER — Med-Care, a walk-in and appointment medical center, is now a participating provider with Blue Shield, Medicare and two area health maintenance organizations, Columbia Freestate and MDIPA.

"Patients who have Columbia Freestate and MDIPA insurance plans may choose Med Care as their primary care provider," Dr. Alva S. Baker said. "In addition, Med Care is now an urgent care provider for MDIPA. Med CAre will also help its patients file insurance claims to other plans."

Med Care, at the Crossroads Square shopping center, is affiliatedwith Carroll County General Hospital.

TWO DOCTORS JOIN CCGH

Two new specialists have joined the medical staff at Carroll County General Hospital:

* Dr. Robert N. Kass is a specialist in family practice.

A graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, he completed his internship and residency in family practice at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore. Certified by the American Board of Family Practice, his affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians.

* Dr. Neel Kamal is a specialist in gastroenterology and internal medicine.

A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, he completed his internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore. He completed his residencies at Good Samaritan Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Certified by the American Board of Medicine, his professional affiliations include membership inthe American College of Physicians and the American GastroenterologyAssociation.

Cherie Jenkins, president of Jenkins Insurance Associates Inc., has been granted the LUTC Fellow professional designation.

LUTCF is conferred upon life underwriters who meet theexacting training, membership and ethical standards jointly set by the Life Underwriter Training Council and the National Association of Life Underwriters.

The designation marks an agent's long-term commitment to professionalism on behalf of clients and to NALU's code of ethics, establishes the agent's competence and business experience, and frequently leads to additional professional development.

Jenkins received her LUTCF designation Sept. 25 in Nashville, Tenn., duringthe 1991 annual NALU convention. A local recognition event will be conducted here, where she will be presented with the official diploma.

Active in the profession for eight years, Jenkins also is vice president of the Carroll County Association of Life Underwriters.

DRIVERS PLACE IN RODEO

Haden Trash Removal Inc. drivers scored some bigwins at the Maryland Delaware Solid Waste Association truck rodeo Sept. 29.

The rodeo is an obstacle course involving safety procedures and intricate driving skills.

Winners from Haden were: Dennis Spielman, first place for the State of Maryland Front Load Driver; Bob "Hardluck" Strakes, third place for State of Maryland Utility Truck Division; and Jimmy Jones, sixth place for State of Maryland Rear LoadDriver.

GET AWAY ON SATURDAY

Tender Learning Care child care center is offering a "Saturday Get Away" to parents who need a day away to do what they want without the children.

The center will offer a fun, relaxing Saturday for children ages 2-12 years. The center will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays Oct. 12, Nov. 2, 16, 23 and 30 and Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Cost for all day is $16.

Parents must bring an emergency health card, health inventory and immunization record, a morning snack, lunch, blanket and sheet for their child.

The center is at 2651 Dotson's Ridge Road, just south of Liberty Road off Route 27.

TOURISM ON AGENDA

George Williams, director of Tourism and Promotion for the state of Maryland, will be the guest speaker at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce's General Membership Breakfast at 8 a.m. Oct. 29 at Friendly Farm Restaurant.

In 1989, tourism broughtin $50.9 million to the local economy. Williams will share his plansfor tourism in Maryland, and particularly Carroll County.

Cost ofthe breakfast is $8 and reservations should be made no later than Oct. 25.
