Hopkins Graduates

Airman Jennifer B. Hopkins graduated from the aircraft loadmaster course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

Hopkins, the daughter of Patricia Becker of Columbia and Kenneth Hopkins of Ellicott City, graduated from Hammond High School in 1989.


Marine Lance Cpl. Michael E. Mewshaw, son of Sam G. Mewshaw of Laurel, reported for duty at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C.


Bradley E. Stockham and Randy Mullican received practical work in military leadership at the ROTC advanced camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

The camp, attended by cadets between their third and fourth year of college, includes instruction in communications, management and survival training.

Stockham, the son of Edwin and Roslyn Stockham of Sykesville, is a student at the University of Richmond.

Mullican, the son of Carol Hands of Ellicott City, is a student at Johns Hopkins University


Two areaservicemen have recently been promoted. They are:

* Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael E. Provow, a 1987 Wilde Lake High School graduate, to his present rank while serving aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Mahan. He joined the Navy in February 1989.

* Marine Pfc. Michael A. Richardson, Alvin Richardson of Laurel, to his present rank upon graduation from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depost, Parris Island, S.C.

Richardson received early promotion for his superior performance during all phases of the training cycle.


Several servicemen recently completed training. They are:

* Marine Pfc. Roy R. Champion, son of Glyda and Roy Champion of Mount Airy, at Marine Corps recruit Depot, San Diego. He joined the Marine Corps in April 1991.

* Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice James E. Reid, son of Rose M. Reid of Columbia, Coast Guard Training, Cape May, N.J. The 1989 Wilde Lake High School graduate joined the Coast Guard in May 1991.

* Marine Pfc. David W. Eikenberg, son of George and Anna Eikenberg of Elkridge, from the basic equipment operations course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, N.C. The 1990 Howard High School graduate joined the Marine Corps Reserves in December 1990.

* Marine 2nd Lt. Stephen C. Scarfe, son of Stephen C. Scarfe, Sr. of Columbia, from the basic school at the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Va., as a newly commissioned officer. The 1986 Glenelg High School graduate joined the Marine Corps in December 1990.

* Navy Ensign Michael D. Golightly, son of Michael D. Golightly, Sr. of Jessup, the Officer Indoctrination Schoolat the Naval Education and Training Center in Newport, R.I. Golightly joined the Navy in March 1991.


Newly promoted Spec. Michael N. Willis, son of Sandra and Charles Crawford of Ellicott City, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal, awarded to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage or other outstanding accomplishments.

Willis, a 1988 Centennial High School graduate, is a military police specialist at Giessen Army Depot in Germany.
