We were appalled to learn of your decision to "defer" funds for the tot lot at Charles Carroll ElementarySchool.

In the Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1991 edition of The Carroll County Sun, you stated that "parks are in good shape. . . . A lot of money has been put into them. I think they could go another 12 to 18 months."

Although the parks may be in good shape, this elementary school is not a park, and no money has been put into the tot lot for 10 years from anyone. This equipment is unsafe now and will not last another 12 to 18 months.

It is imperative that this equipment be replaced immediately. We were advised that the funds for this project were appropriated, bids were submitted, with one selected, plans were drawn and a tentative delivery date set.

We have already received contributions of money and time from businesses, local organizations and private citizens.

Not only would the 400 students at Charles Carroll school benefit from a safe tot lot, but also the many organizations, such as scouts, church groups, recreation groups, summer playground groups, who use these facilities frequently.

There is no other playground in this area for our youngsters.

We are extending aninvitation to you to visit our school, inspect our tot lot and explain your decision to our concerned parents.

Please notify the school as to your availability.
