Springdale romps by 3 3/4 at Pimlico

September 30, 1991|By Marty McGee T

Springdale surged to the front turning for home before going on to a 3 3/4 -length victory in the $20,000 feature at Pimlico Race Course yesterday.

The 3-year-old filly was the first starter at Pimlico for Larry Jennings since the trainer shipped his stable to Pimlico from Monmouth Park.

After breaking sharply, Springdale was taken back by Mike Luzzi. She then angled out for the stretch drive and was able to hold off a mild rally from Pandisco.

Springdale, an easy winner of her last start at Philadelphia Park, paid $7.60 to win after completing 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute, 45 1/5 seconds.

Gracious Touch, the 7-5 favorite, had a favorable inside position most of the way but failed to fire.

Jockey Greg Hutton rode three winners on the 12-race program, opening with Salve and Ameri Allen in the early Daily Double ($70.40) before winning the finale with Roanoke's Image ($29).

NOTES: First-time Lasix horses won 3 races yesterday. Blue Wolf, 1 of them, was the only favorite to win on the card. . . . Pimlico has scheduled an 11:30 a.m. post for Sunday.
