The question of whether the state of Maryland should be doing more for the state's poor brought an almost equal division among the callers to SUNDIAL. Of 477 callers, 242, or 50.7 percent, said the state should not do more, and 235, or 49.2 percent, said the state should.
However, of 473 callers, 251, or 53 percent, said the United States should declare another war on poverty, and 222 (46 percent) disagreed.
On the question of raising taxes to provide more money for the poor, 317 of 439 callers (72 percent) said no, and 122 (27 percent) would agree to a tax increase.
"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
