Howard County can claim an elementary and high school teacher among the 216 nationwide recipients of the 1991 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics teaching.
Carol Cobb, a science teacher at Elkridge Elementary School, will be recognized during ceremonies in Washington this week.
The events include an awards presentation at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, plus a reception at the Air and Space Museum and dinners at the Department of State and the National Press Club.
A $7,500 grant from the National Science Foundation is also included for each recipient.
Mary Jo Messenger, a mathematics instructor at Centennial High School, will be honored with fellow secondary education teachers in Washington in March.
