Rockfish season gets extension

September 27, 1991|By Bill Burton

Due to poor rockfish catches attributed to warm weather, the Department of Natural Resources will delay the scheduled Sept. 30 close of the pound net and haul seine seasons until Oct. 18. As of Sept. 20, 10 seiners and 50 netters had taken only 19,383 pounds as part of the overall commercial fisheries quota of 456,747 pounds.

The netters are limited to 100 pounds a day, and 775 for the season. Only half the licensees have reported catching rock.

Extension of the season is no indication the charterboat season will be extended if that segment does not catch its quota in the sportsfishing seasons that open Oct. 9, a DNR spokesman said.
