TOKYO -- One of Japan's largest television companies agreed yesterday to pay $40 million for four-year rights to broadcast CNN news programs in Japan, in the largest such deal ever for the Atlanta-based network.

CNN currently operates 15 overseas news bureaus and has plans to open four more within the year -- in Bangkok, Thailand; Amman, Jordan; New Delhi, India; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
