Elle names new editor

Ruth LaFerla, men's style editor of The New York Times Magazine, has been named executive editor of Elle magazine. She will be responsible for both fashion and regular features and will report to Regis Pagniez, publication director.

LaFerla will start at the end of October. "She will be taking the magazine, editorially, into the '90s," said David Pecker, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hachette Magazines, which publishes Elle.

"Unfortunately we've had some turnover," he added, referring to the departure of half a dozen senior features editors at the American edition of Elle since it began publishing six years ago. "But we feel we will stabilize under Ruth."

LaFerla, who has been with The New York Times Magazine for five and half years, produced and edited Men's Fashions of The Times, a twice yearly supplement. She also wrote articles on style.
