Services set for tomorrow for Mary L. Grau, educator

Services for Mary L. Grau, a retired educator who held supervisory positions in Harford and Montgomery counties, are scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dulaney Valley and Manor roads, Long Green.

Miss Grau, who was 89, died of cardiovascular disease last Monday at the Mission Manor Nursing Home in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Long Green native received a bachelor's degree from what is now Towson State University, a master's in education from Columbia University and a doctorate in education from the Johns Hopkins University.

She began her teaching career in 1919 in Baltimore County schools. She later became supervisor of elementary education in Harford County, and then was supervisor of mathematics and elementary education in Montgomery County until her retirement 1969.

After World War II, she was a consultant in education at Kyushu University in Japan for the U.S. Army.

Her interests included international travel, gardening and reading and writing poetry.
