The Harford County Board of Library Trustees has begun a search for candidates from three areas of the county to be considered for appointment to the board.
Positions will be open in the Bel Air, Joppa/Edgewood, and northern areas of Harford County.
Anyone interested in serving as a library trustee may obtain an application form and information about qualifications from one of the library's nine branches.
Trustees are appointed to a five-year term by the county executive from a list submitted by the board of trustees. The appointment is confirmed by the County Council.
A trusteemay be reappointed for a second term. They receive no payment for their services.
Among the duties of trustees, as set by state and county law, are: to establish and operate the library to provide free service; to set library policy; to employ a director; to advise in thepreparation of the budget and to approve the budget; to control the spending of funds; to adopt rules and regulations for use of the library; and to select locations and approve plans for branch buildings.
