A melee at a fraternity dance early yesterday morning on the Catonsville campus of the University of Maryland Baltimore County left an estimated $1,500 in damage to a student center, a university spokeswoman said.
Two campus police officers and one student were injured slightly in the fight, which broke out at 1:35 a.m., spokeswoman Louise M. White said. The fight was under control by 2:05 a.m., she said. Four state troopers and 19 Baltimore County officers, three of them with police dogs, were called to the scene, but there were no arrests.
About 700 students and guests were attending a dance sponsored by Phi Beta Sigma at the University Center ballroom vTC when a fight erupted in an adjacent lounge, Ms. White said. Between 15 and 40 people were participants in the fight, she said. The ballroom was filled to capacity at the time.
