NFL -- Reinstated Detroit Lions DB Terry Taylor after he was banned for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. The reinstatement will take effect Monday, and Taylor is eligible to play Sept. 29.

Houston Oilers -- Placed WR Leonard Harris on IR. Activated WR Gary Wellman.


Chicago Blackhawks -- Traded RW Wayne Presley (15 goals, 19 assists) to the San Jose Sharks for a third-round pick in the 1993 draft.

Los Angeles Kings -- D Tom Laidlaw agreed to a buyout offer, reportedly for $455,000.

New Jersey Devils -- Traded F Kirk Muller (19, 51) and minor-league G Rollie Melanson to the Montreal Canadiens for RW Stephan Richer (31, 30) and RW Tom Chorske (9, 11).
