Maryland's games with Duke at Cole Field House on Jan. 8 and with Florida State at Cole on Jan. 18 have been added to the Raycom/Jefferson Pilot package of ACC games.

* The lawyer for New Jersey Nets forward Derrick Coleman confirmed that Coleman had refused to cooperate with a Syracuse University investigation into alleged rules violations at the school. Harold MacDonald said Coleman had refused to be interviewed by lawyers hired by Syracuse. MacDonald also said Coleman would not speak with the NCAA if he was asked. Coleman, last season's NBA Rookie of the Year, played at Syracuse.

Golf

Co-medalist Morris Beecroft of Newport News, Va., scored a 2-and-1 victory over Charles Van Linge of Portola Valley, Calif., to advance through the first round of the 37th annual Seniors championship of the 37th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in Frankfort, Mich. Beecroft had one birdie and was 2 up after five holes at Crystal Downs Country Club.

Two other Middle Atlantic area players lost, as Tom Watrous of Birmingham, Mich., defeated Jim O'Malley of Rockville, 2 and 1, and Jim McMurtrey of Danville, Calif., defeated Ken Newlin of Nokesville, Va., 3 and 2. The round was played in 55-degree temperature with winds approaching 40 mph.
