The Arundel Senior Assistance Programs Inc. of Edgewater have been awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the American Association for State and Local History for the project, "The Annapolis I Remember."
This award is one of the most prestigious for local history achievement. It recognizes people and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of state and local history.
Nominations start at the local level, and are screened at the state and regional levels by a national network of judges.
The AASLH is a non-profit educational organization with a membership of 6,200 people and organizations. It works to advance knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of local history in the United States and Canada. AASLH publishes books, technical publications, a monthly newsletter and a bimonthly magazine, History News.
The association holds an annual meeting, and offers a variety of educational opportunities for professional and volunteer workers in the field of state and local history.
BLACK DOLL ART SHOWN
The first major showing of black doll art on the East Coast is now under way at the Banneker-Douglas Museum in Annapolis. "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" features the work of six artists from Maryland and Washington.
Doll quilts (quilts with dolls in the design motif) will also be shown. These quilts use the appliquetechnique that slaves brought with them from West Africa.
Severalactivities have been planned to complement the exhibi
tion, such as doll-making workshops, talks on doll making, a fashion show of wearable doll art and more.
The museum is on Franklin Street in Annapolis, near the County Court House.
CABLE CHANNELS ADDED
Effective Oct. 1, North Arundel CATV Inc. will make the Disney Channel and Comedy Central available to its expanded basic service.
It also has created a broadcast basic service that includes 15 channels from the greater Baltimore-Washington viewing area; the three super stations, TBS, WOR and WGN; and two locally originated channels.
The monthly rate for broadcast basic is $12, when expanded the rate will be $20.40.
