NL -- Suspended Cincinnati Reds P Norm Charlton for 7 days and fined him for throwing at Los Angeles Dodgers C Mike Scioscia in a Sept. 9 game.


Los Angeles Clippers -- Signed F Ed Horton. forward.


Northern Kentucky -- Named Steve Blake (executive director of the Tiger Club at Towson State; Cumberland native) executive director of the Gold Club, the university's athletic fund-raising organization.


Dallas Cowboys -- Traded LB Jesse Solomon to the New England Patriots for an undisclosed 1992 draft choice.

New England Patriots -- Waived P Bryan Wagner (29.1-yard net average, second worst in the AFC).

New York Jets -- Signed RB Leroy Kinard to the practice squad. Waived WR James Bradley from the practice squad.


Detroit Red Wings -- Signed RW Martin Lapointe to a 4-year contract.

Los Angeles Kings -- Sent C Marc Saumier, G Andre Bouliane, G Wayne Marion, F Jerome Bechard, F Darryl Williams, F Kevin White, F Tim Breslin, F Kevin Heise, F Bob Berg, F Ross Wilson, F Jim Ballantine, D Kris Miller, D Mike Ruark, D Trevor Pochipinski, D Shawn Wheeler, D Kevin MacDonald and D Eric Ricard to Phoenix (IHL).

St. Louis Blues -- Signed D Garth Butcher and RW Rich Sutter to 3-year contracts and C Bob Bassen to a 2-year contract. Returned C Nathan Lafayette, C Grayden Reid, RW Kevin Malgunas and LW Jason Brousseau to their junior teams.
