Transportation plans under review at meetings around state

Maryland transportation officials are touring the state and meeting with local officials to discuss proposed capital projects in each county and in Baltimore.

State Transportation Secretary O. James Lighthizer and other officials will lead the county-by-county review of the 1992 State Report on Transportation -- highway projects and other transportation programs for the years 1992 to 1997.

After the public meetings, the transportation plans will be sent to Gov. William Donald Schaefer for his review and approval.

The final version of the report will be given to the General Assembly when it convenes in January.

Meetings in the Baltimore metropolitan area are as scheduled:

* Harford County, 2 p.m. Thursday in the County Council Chambers, Level A, 20 W. Courtland St., Belair (new courthouse addition).

* Carroll County, 2 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Commissioner's Conference Room, County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

* Howard County, 7 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Banneker Hearing Room, George Howard Building, Ellicott City.

* Baltimore, 10 a.m. Oct. 4 in the Curran Conference Room, 4th Floor, City Hall.

* Baltimore County, 2 p.m. Nov. 8 in the County Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, Old Courthouse, Towson.

The Anne Arundel County meeting was held yesterday.
