Man, 29, shot to death police theorize drug link

September 16, 1991

A 29-year-old West Baltimore man was shot dead early today in what police said was a killing related to drugs.

Andre Burley, of the 500 block of Orchard St., was shot several times in the back about 4:30 a.m. while he stood in the 500 block of Gold St. near Pennsylvania Avenue.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Police said a bag of crack cocaine was found on the sidewalk near his body.

Witnesses who were standing nearby told investigators that a small white car had circled the block several times before the shooting.

The witnesses could not say if the occupants of the car had anything to do with the crime, but police are seeking them to gather more information.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting raises this year's city homicide total to 209, compared with 211 at this time last year.
