* Marine Pvt. Eric F. Polhamus, son of Larry and Marcia Polhamus of Columbia, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.
The 1990 Wilde Lake High School graduate joined the Marine Corps in April 1991.
* Airman Steven S. Swenson, son of Air Force Lt. Col. Hilmer W. S. Swenson of Columbia, at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.
* Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Duane F. Geisler, son of Frederick and Loretta Geisler of Baltimore, at Coast Guard Recruit Training in Cape May, N.J.
The 1987 Lansdowne High School graduate joined the Coast Guard Reserves in May 1991.
* Navy Seaman Recruit William G. Nesbit, son of retired Army Sgt. James Nesbit of Ellicott City, at Recruit Training Command, Naval Training Center, San Diego.
Nesbit joined the Navy in February 1991.
* Navy Seaman Recruit JohnJ. Brewer, son of John J. Brewer of Mount Airy, at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
The 1990 Walkersville High School graduate joined the Navy in March 1991.
STRONG ON ASSAULT SHIP
Navy Seaman Donald H. Strong, son of Donald Strong Sr. of Columbia, recently reported for duty aboard amphibious assault ship USS Saipan.
The 1981 Howard High School graduate joined the Navy in March 1991.
THOMASGOES TO N.C.
Marine Sgt. Robert J. Thomas, son of Melvin and Barbara Thomas of Woodbine, recently reported for duty with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron in Cherry Point, N.C.
The 1985 Glenelg High School graduate joined the Marine Corps in December 1985.
KELSEY IS HONORED
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Susan E. Kelsey, daughter of Fred and Marilyn Kelsey of Columbia, was selected as Junior Sailorof the Year for Navy Regional Data Automation Center in Washington.
Kelsey was chosen from all the sailors assigned to the command andwas cited for her outstanding performance of duty, proficiency, leadership, initiative and military bearing.
The 1983 Howard High School graduate joined the Navy in May 1989.
TRIO AT WASH. CAMP
Richard I. Hardie, Jung K. Lee and Frederick K. Schoenbrodt received practical work in military leadership at the ROTC advance camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.
The camp, attended by cadets normally between their third and fourth year of college, includes instruction in communication, management and survival training.
Hardie, son of Ian and Susan Hardie of Columbia, is attending the University of Delaware.
Lee, son of Bong and Jun Less of Ellicott City, is attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Schoenbrodt, son of Col. Frederick and Sandra Schoenbrodt, of Ellicott City, is attending Gettysburg College.
RICH ENDS COURSE
Pvt. Glenn P. Rich, son of William Rich of Wheaton, graduated from the combat signal course at Fort Gordon, Augusta, Ga.
Rich graduated from Wheaton High School in 1986.
PARRUCCI WINS MEDAL
Navy Chief Petty Officer Gregory G. Parrucci, son of Anthony and Lillie Parrucci of Laurel, received the Unites States Air Medal.
Parrucci was cited for meritorious achievement in aerial flight.
In the successful completion of 29 direct combat support missions against the enemy in an active combat area, Parrucci contributedto the success of the United States effort in Southwest Asia.
The 1974 Laurel Senior High School graduate joined the Navy in February 1978.
ALIZIO IS PROMOTED
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher C. Alizio, son of Thomas Alizio of Columbia, was promoted to his present rank while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy.
The 1987 Wilde Lake High School graduate joined the Navy in April 1989.
JOHNSON AT R.I. SCHOOL
Navy Ensign Lisa M. Johnson, daughter of Helen Ross of Columbia, completed the Officer Indoctrination School at the Naval Education and Training Center, Newport, R.I.
The1982 Wilde Lake High School and 1989 Spelman (Atlanta) College graduate joined the Navy in August 1989.
BOUNDS ABOARD SUB
Navy Seaman Apprentice Andrew F. Bounds, son of Robert Bounds of Ellicott City, reported for duty aboard the fleet ballistic missile submarine USS Alabama.
The 1988 Mount Hebron High School graduate joined the Navy in October 1990.
WEAVER IS CITED
Army Capt. Valerie W. Weaver, daughter of Blossie Campfield Moore of Columbia, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
The medal is awarded for outstanding non-combatachievement. Weaver, an ammunition officer, is stationed at the Pentagon.
Weaver is a 1977 Oakland Mills High School and 1983 VirginiaState University graduate.
LONG COMPLETES COURSE
Army Pvt. RobertD. Long has completed the unit level communications maintainer course at Fort Sill, Okla.
Long is the son of Edith Miller of Columbia.
MANNING IN GERMANY
Army Pvt. Andrew C. Manning, an ammunition specialist, arrived for duty at Miesau Army Depot, Germany. Manning, sonof Michael and Bernadette Manning of Ellicott City, is a 1986 graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School.

Air Force2nd Lt. Raghav V. Vajjhala, an aircraft maintenance and munitions officer, arrived for duty at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, N.M.
