* Navy Seaman Recruit Todd C. Keith, son of Thomas C. and Barbara B.Keith of Keymar, recently completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the training cycle, recruits are taught general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 basic fields.

Studies include seamanship, close-order drill, Naval history and first aid. After completing this course of instruction, recruits are eligible for three hours of college credit in physical education and hygiene.

A 1988 graduate of Walkersville High School, Frederick County, Keith joined the Navy in April 1991.

* Coast Guard Ensign Carla J. Grantham, daughter of Rosa J. White of Union Bridge, recently was commissioned in her present rank upon graduation from Officer Candidate School.

During the course at the Coast Guard Reserve Training Center,

Yorktown, Va., candidates are taught navigation, seamanship, communications, leadership and Coast Guard search and rescue and law enforcement procedures.

Officer candidates also participate in a rigorous physical training program, and studied general administration, Coast Guard missions, history and human relations.

A 1988 graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., and 1990 graduateof National University, San Diego, Calif., she joined the Coast Guard Reserves in March 1991.

* Navy Lt. Steven M. Clarke, whose wife,Caryn, is the daughter of Charles W. and Carol Shroyer of Woodbine, recently received the U.S. Air Medal.

Clarke was cited for meritorious achievement in aerial flight as a Naval Flight Officer for the S-3B Viking aircraft. In the successful completion of 29 direct combatsupport missions against the enemy in an active combat area, he contributed materially to the success of the U. S. effort in Southwest Asia.

The award was presented for service while assigned to Air Anti-Submarine Squadron 24, homeported at Naval Air Station, Cecil Field,Jacksonville, Fla., while embarked aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

The 1983 graduate of Saguaro High School, Scottsdale, Ariz., joined the Navy in May 1987.

* Navy Seaman Recruit John J. Brewer, son of John J. Brewer of Mount Airy, recently completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the training cycle, recruits are taught general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 occupational fields.
