CHESAPEAKE IS WINNER
Monica Gibson posted the game's only goal just three minutes into the opening half, as host Chesapeake held onto a 1-0 decision over 4A hockey league nemesis Old Mill Friday.
Cougar coach Jerry Raab complimented Marcia Brown for outstanding defensive play. Teammate Ellie Beziat gathered in 11 saves, while Patriot goalie Kim Greenlee redirected 14 Cougar shots.
Chesapeake held a 17-14 shots-on-goal advantage over Old Mill (0-1).
ARUNDEL TRIPS MEADE
Amy Lettis' first-half score paced host Arundel to a 1-0 victory over rival Meadein Friday's 4A league field hockey match.
"The returners are really playing well. They're working very hard to not repeat what happened to us last year," said Wildcats coach Clint Gosnell. "The girls up from last year's JV squad are giving us a lot of help." Gosnell's team went 0-9-3 in 1990.
The Mustangs fell to 0-1.
